Bob James' newest release Dancing o­n The Water features James at his best. Incorporating jazz, classical, pop, blues, funk along with his usual wealth of finesse. We have grown accustomed to the various incarnations of Bob James' eclectic nonetheless illustrious career. Of course you will remember "Four Play" and various other manifestation of his musical capacity. This time around James features nine original compositions and two standards, four of which are performed by James "sans" accompaniment. The remaining seven pieces o­n the album are duets featuring guests: Joe Sample (piano), Keiko Matsui (piano), Chuck Loeb (guitar) and Dave Holland (bass). Accompanied by Joe Sample the album sets sail with a very melodic "Alone Together." The CD drifts effortlessly from o­ne track to the next. Ultimately "Duo Oto Subito" accompanied by Keiko Matsui brings the ebbs and flows back home to the shore. In accordance with its title, Dancing o­n the Water exhibits improvisatory buoyancy that will astonish numerous listeners. Extravagant, idyllic, emotional and romantic – this CD closely mirrors the essentials of Bob James' music.
