Several vases of flowers were placed on stage just before the six members of The Cowboy Junkies emerged in front of the sell out crowd at The " New Club Soda." From the opening song (Ring on the Sill) Margo's sweet and powerful voice filled the air as the very attentive and laidback crowd watched quietly. Margo stole the show and blew everyone away with her stunning vocals. By the third song, she greeted the crowd and talked about "Horse In The Country, which is dedicated to everyone with bad jobs," she mentioned that she has a great job, but traveling by bus with ten men, tends to get a little smelly in the morning. Margo introduced the band's latest CD "Open" and mentioned that her mom who was in the audience had already purchased four CDs. "Only 40,000 more for gold" she told the audience with a smile. She also dedicated 'Lay it Down" to her mom, stating that it was one of the only songs in their repertoire that was not a sad song. The band performed a few instrumental jams emphasizing Jeff Birds talents on the Harmonica and Mandolin. "The Junkies" closed out the evening with Bruce Springsteen's "Thunder Road" which they have played throughout their tour since Springsteen has always been a major influence in Margo's career. This was my first Cowboy Junkies show. I enjoyed Club Soda's intimacy, but I can imagine that in time this sensational band will have no choice but to perform in front of a much larger audience. Join their mailing list to keep informed of future tour dates and let's show some more support for future Montreal shows. http://www.cowboyjunkies.com/ From Montreal it's off to Nepean, Ottawa where they will be performing their final Canadian stop before their extensive European tour in October and November.
