Lou Reed's most recent release could possibly be shelved as a concept album. This disc pays homage to Edgar Allan Poe's The Raven. Interestingly, this album is filled with twists and turns and is impossible to pigeonhole. Reed remarks in his liner notes: "For sure Edgar Allan Poe is that most classical of American writers – a writer more peculiarly attuned to our new century's heartbeat than he ever was to his own. Obsessions, paranoia, willful acts of self-destruction surround us constantly. This 21 track wonderment will appeal to anyone looking for something a bit off center. Several well known celebrities have joined Reed on this mystifying album, the masses include Steve Buscemi, William Dafoe, Amanda Plummer, Laurie Anderson, David Bowie, Ornette Coleman, The Blind Boys Of Alabama and Canada's own Kate and Anna McGarrigle just to name a few. This album is incomparable to anything Reed has ever recorded. Being a lover of eclectic music I completely enjoyed this crazed album. Please beware do not listen to this album before falling asleep….nightmares may ensue.
