Multi-instrumentalist and composer Roy Hargrove (his primary instrument is the trumpet, flugelhorn, keyboards, piano, background vocals, percussion and bass) has influenced several artists of his generation. Hargrove's latest release, "The RH Factor" is music that belongs to the night. Imagine walking down the streets of New York, hearing the multitude of sounds oozing out of the late night clubs and concert halls. The record company describes this album as "an organic musical street party at the corner of hip-hop and bop," that's quite the apt description. This multi layered CD features 14 wonderful tracks, opening with the jazzy "Hardgroove," into the Hip-Hop infused "Common Free Style" with Common donating his special blend of vocals. D'Angelo contributes her vocal phrasings to the Wurlitzer organ tinged "I'll Stay." Q-Tip and Erykah Badu add vocals to "Poetry" giving the number an urbanesque feel. Roy Hargrove's 10 piece band will perform at this year's Montreal Jazz festival. The Montreal Spectrum will open its doors to a combination of grooves including jazz, funk, soul and hip-hop on June 26th, 2003, don't miss Roy Hargrove concert.
