Spiderman

Spiderman is, without a doubt, one of the most eagerly anticipated movies in recent memory and justly so. Equal parts coming of age story/special-effects laden superhero epic, the movie stars the sublime Tobey Maguire in the lead role and he easily personifies shy, insecure teen Peter Parker, even as he evokes Parker's heroic alter-ego, Spiderman. The movie is, for the most part, a faithful retelling of the comic book tale and it's credo, "With great power comes great responsibility". Peter Parker is imbued with the innate qualities of an arachnid when he is bitten by a radioactive spider. His arch-nemesis is played by Willem Dafoe, who revels in his role as Norman Osborne, a.k.a. the villainous Green Goblin, and, in so doing, all but steals the show. The cast is rounded out by Rosemary Harris as Aunt May, the sexy and charismatic Kirsten Dunst as perpetual love interest, Mary-JaneWatson, James Dean look-alike, James Franco as Osborne's son, Harry and J.K. Simmons, as Parker's hilariously cantankerous boss, J. Jonah Jameson, also a scene-stealer. By all accounts and on all levels, be it allegorical good vs evil cautionary tale, or straightforward superhero action movie, Spiderman delivers from start to finish. The summer's first blockbuster flick is definitely not to be missed – in the words of Spiderman's co-creator, Stan Lee, "'Nuff Said!".
