Suzanne Vega

If red is lifeblood and gray is death, Suzanne Vega's songs truly do border somewhere between our world and the next. She'll take you away to a mystical, unknown place with her beautifully easy voice and entrancing rhythms. Suzanne Vega performs lead vocals and acoustic guitar, Gerry Leonard plays acoustic and electric guitar, mandolin, zither and dulcimer, Rupert Hine does some drum programming, plays keyboards, bass, and woodwinds. While a number of other players contribute to the overall effort, these three make up the core of the band. Rupert Hine also does an excellent job of producing and arranging this thirteen-track gem of an album. We get a sense of Vega's masterful songwriting abilities on tracks such as: "Soap And Water", "Priscilla", "Harbor Song", and the title track, "Songs In Red And Gray". Her words and music kept me teetering between a feeling of warm comfort and one of a damp chill. You won't be disappointed with Songs In Red And Gray – a relaxing journey of the mind.
