The Songs of Charley Patton

Charley Patton was born in 1891, and died in 1934. Patton's music has influenced many musicians, and touched many people throughout theworld. This compilation, named after o­ne of his own compositions, is a fine collection of various artists paying their tribute to this country legend. Graham Parker, Snooky Pryor, Guy Davis, and Joe Louis Walker, are just a few of the artists o­n this exceptional CD that truly brings the spirit of Charley Patton back to life, for 12 raw tracks. I was swept away by the amount of variety and depth contained o­n each song. From a very emotional and raw, "Pony Blues" which featured a captivating vocal and harmonica combination, to a beautiful collage of guitar rhythms and slide guitar that is, "Elder Greene Blues". The Songs of Charley Patton have not faded away; they are alive and kicking o­n this disc. It would be a shame to miss out o­n this exceptional recording.
