Various Artists

The link amid jazz and electronic dance music has become a strong alliance. The newer artists of the day have often found inspiration from the older masters. This review will amalgamate two separate CDs in one review. I believe that both of Verve's Unmixed and Remixed albums should have both been combined as a single offering. The song selections are the same on both CDs however the remixed versions include the new versions of the older standards. The two discs represent a meeting of the old and the new. Astrud Gilberto meets Thievery Corporation or how about Ella Fitzgerald and De-Phazz sharing "Wait Till You See Him." once again I must profess to Verve's continuing aural clarity and splendid auditory definition. Some of my faves on these two discs include the following: Carmen McRae – How Long Has This Been Going on? (MJ Cole remix), Astrud Gilberto – Who Needs Forever? (Thievery Corporation remix), Dinah Washington – Is You Is or Is You Ain't My Baby? (Rae and Christian remix) and Sarah Vaughan – Summertime (UFO remix). Whether your relatively fresh or ripe to the music scene, both of these CDs will be welcomed additions to your collection.
