Classical soundtracks for big budget sci-fi flicks sound weird on the home player. "Sky Captain" builds to climax after theatrical climax without the visuals of crashing zeppelins, snickering villains and screaming innocent bystanders. What is left is an album that serves only as a reminder of the movie. The music, by composer Edward Shearmur, is rattled off ferociously. The titles of these tracks are "The Robot Army" and "Calling Sky Captain". The music has impact, and surely fits well within the context of the film, but sitting at home I am left daydreaming about the movie, which is probably the point. This album is best, and possibly only enjoyed by the worst possible kind of movie drip or by children dumbstruck by the film who want to act out the hero scenes with their action figures.
