Leela James

Los Angeles native Leela James is one of those rare artists that is in a category all her own. Her deep and bluesy voice is captivating and she certainly has a talent for writing, having co-written most of her album with big names in the industry such as Kanye West, Raphael Saadiq and Wyclef Jean. Her debut effort is entitled "A Change Is Gonna Come" and is filled with a marvelous blend of genres such as R&B, hip hop, pop, soul and funk.
Leela gets the album off to a great start with "Music". This track is followed by the groovy "Good Time." Wyclef drops some vocals with the talented songstress on the phenomenal "Ghetto", a cool collaboration with a musical backdrop that is off the hook.
"When You Love Somebody" is enticing as is Leela's cover of No Doubt's smash hit "Don't Speak". "Mistreating Me" and "Didn't I" stand out as well. "Long Time Coming" ends off a truly awesome listening experience. Surely one of the best debuts of the year.
