It is not often that you get to see two musicians of such reputation and caliber performing together. Both are icons within the music industry and to see them within the beautiful confines of the Flynn Center (roughly 1,200 seats) in Burlington, Vermont is almost too much to hope for. To see these two old friends perform together is not such a strange idea; they both come from a 'Roots' background. Taj Mahal (who is a multi-instrument playing musician, producer, composer, and has won 2 Grammys) mingles blues with influences from as far and wide as Africa, the Caribbean, Hawaii, the Latin world, and folk music. As a result he has created his own unique sound that has thrilled listeners for over 40 years. Rock-And- Roll Hall of Fame inductee Mavis Staples was the lead vocalist of the famous Staple Singers. She is now a solo act who performs Gospel and Soul music. Her voice has been called one of the best human voices ever recorded. It promises to be a night of Blues, Gospel, Soul, and Roots music like is not often seen, so make sure you are amongst the few lucky ones who get to see/hear them.
