Big Momma’s House 2

FBI agent Malcolm Turner (Martin Lawrence – Bad Boys, Big Momma's House) is now married to Sherri (Nia Long – Alfie, Boyz in the Hood) and they are expecting their first child. Malcolm has requested a desk job so that he is safer for his family. When an agent who taught Malcolm everything is killed while investigating Tom Fuller (Mark Moses – from television's Desperate Housewives), Malcolm decides to investigate the case himself without letting anyone, including the FBI, know. In order to get closer to Fuller, Malcolm brings out his Big Momma disguise and uses it to get hired by Leah Fuller (Emily Proctor – Jerry Maguire, Leaving Las Vegas) as a nanny. During the course of his undercover work, Malcolm finds himself getting attached to the three Fuller kids, Carrie (Chloe Moretz – The Amityville Horror), Molly (Kat Dennings – The 40 Year Old Virgin, Raise Your Voice) and Andrew (Preston and Trevor Shores – from television series such as Malcolm in the Middle and Monk). Malcolm tries to juggle keeping Sherri and the FBI in the dark about what he is doing, investigate Tom Fuller, keep his true identify from the Fullers, and keep an eye on the Fuller kids all at the same time, which proves to be difficult to say the least.

It is really hard to make a good sequel, especially in the comedy genre. You are tempted to use the same brand of humour that worked in the first film and usually audiences are bored with it the second time around. Big Momma's House 2 is an entertaining enough film, but no way near as funny as the first one. All the sight gags involving Martin Lawrence dressed up as an older obese black woman have been done so they seem a little stale this time. One good scene is the one where Big Momma goes to the spa. What is appealing about director John Whitesell's (See Spot Run, Calendar Girl) film is that it is appropriate for all ages, from kids right on up to grandparents. It is the type of film that does not require that you turn your brain on or follow along closely for fear of missing something – if this is what you're looking for from a film then Big Momma's House 2 will deliver.
