When the lead vocalist of the band you are listening to goes by the nickname of 'Ripper' then you can safely bet that the band will be a heavy metal one. Beyond Fear can definitely be categorized as heavy metal and this is their debut album. Lead singer Tim 'Ripper' Owens might not be a name you recognize if you are not a metal fan, but metal fans of the last couple of years definitely know this guy. Owens took over lead vocal duties in 1996 from Rob Halford when he left legendary British heavy metal band Judas Priest. Then lo and behold Halford rejoined Judas Priest in 2004 and Owens was looking for a band to sing with. After a short stint with Iced Earth, Beyond Fear was put together shortly afterwards and their sound really harkens back to the glory days of metal. Symbolic lyrics, shrieking vocals, thundering drumming, and crunching guitar work are up front and center on the album. There is nothing original about the music this band is making, but if you like metal then you'll probably be happy with this band's sound.
