This recording is definitely for the 'mature' listener and by 'mature' I mean those who have a more refined musical palette. The teaming up of the great American diva Renee Fleming with jazz pianist Brad Mehldau is an inspired combo. They are covering the material of Rainer Maria Wilke and poet Louise Bogan. Voice and piano are featured on the album and they are both beautiful. The two artists really bring a sense of heartache and melancholy to the works. Sometimes there seems to be a lack of synchronicity between Mehldau and Fleming, but it does not take away from the fact that this is the perfect CD to put on on a cold winter day while reading "Wuthering Heights" and drinking a glass of port.
