Rendez-Vous Motown

The gang at Nuits D'Afriques are a hard working bunch! They do not only give us shows during their wonderful festival in the summer, but all year long. The latest is Rendez-Vous Motown. Almost everyone alive is a fan of that African-American sound that came out of Detroit roughly 50 years ago which became known as Motown. During these three special shows we will be treated with a selection from five decades of hit music. The music performed will be from the likes of Marvin Gaye, Martha and the Vandellas, The Four Tops, Smokey Robinson, The Temptations, and Stevie Wonder amongst others. It is sure to be a night of non-stop dancing for those in attendance.

Rendez-Vous Motown features S-Ankh Rasa who was a legendary saxophonist, composer, arranger, and musical director on Marvin Gaye's Sexual Healing world tour (1982-83). Not stopping there, Rasa has also toured with the likes of Stevie Wonder, Debbie Allen, Natalie Cole, Barry White, Diana Ross, The Four Tops, and The Temptations. Quite an impressive resumé, no?!? Admitted as the youngest ever to the prestigious Berkely School of Music at age 12, S-Ankh Rasa played the famous Monterey Jazz Festival at the ripe old age of 15. Mr. Rasa will be joined onstage by a 7-piece band and several backing vocalists. Besides this talent several two other authentic voices from Berry Gordy's Motown record label will be there in Ollie B. Rasbury and Donald Bell.
