The Satchmo Suite

Director Hans Böggild is presenting with what can only be described as a unique show and night at the theatre. The Leanor and Alvin Segal Theatre will be presenting three plays which have musical themes this season and The Satchmo Suite (written by Hans Böggild and Doug Innis) is about the relationship between a modern-day cello player (Andrew Moodie) and Louis Armstrong (Jeremiah Sparks). While on tour, the cello player finds himself having difficulty with a particular part of Bach's "Six Suites for Solo Cello" and so he calls on the spirit of the Father of Jazz. This 'dialogue' produces discussion on music, racism, family, and hope. Just because it is about music does not mean that this play is without content!

There will be three musicians (John Gilbert, Bill Mahar and Colin Matthews) on stage during the play. The jazz music played throughout the production is true to the spirit of Louis Armstrong and couple with the content makes for an enjoyable evening.
