At first glance you might look at the latest Jann Arden album and mutter "Not another cover album". Usually cover albums mean a lazy outing by an artist just trying to fulfill their contractual obligations with their label. This, not surprisingly, is not the case with Canadian Jann Arden. Like most things she does her whole heart is in the songs she has chosen. The mood and tone of the songs, like most of Arden's material, is on the darker or heartbreaking side, but this willingness to show vulnerability is what we love her for. In interviews she states that the songs are all ones she loved while she was growing up and connected with. Arden covers songs by The Carpenters, Pat Benatar, Cat Stevens, and The Mamas and Papas. There is also one original written by Arden and a friend which fits seamlessly in. Fans and casual listeners should find plenty to like about the album. Jann Arden will be playing at L'Olympia on April 14, 2007 and it is always a good show full of laughs and heartbreak so don't miss it!
