Ne-Yo caught our attention with his debut album, which featured catchy songs like "So Sick" and "Sexy Love." He returns with his anticipated follow up, entitled "Because Of You." The title track gets the album off to a really pleasant start. Jay-Z drops a few rhymes on "Crazy." It's good but not great, if you know what I mean. "Can We Chill" and "Go On Girl" are average fare. "Addicted" and "Say It" are terrible. "Ain't Thinking About You" is a decent effort. "Leaving Tonight" features the talented Jennifer Hudson, whom many of you know from American Idol and of course the movie "Dreamgirls." Her vocals on this track are solid.
It is very obvious that this guy has talent. He's got a smooth voice and gets props for being a respected songwriter, having worked with the likes of Beyoncé and will be working on Britney Spears comeback album. There is a buzz in the biz about him being really talented and all. I was not impressed with his follow up. The potential is there but Ne-Yo does not deliver this time around.
