Patton – Blu-Ray Edition

Well, who am I to review a film that was made over thirty years ago and has set the bar for all biopics that followed. This 2 disc DVD of "Patton" released by 20th Century Fox as part of their "Cinema Classics Collection", is just that. The film garnered ten Academy Award® nominations, and won in seven categories including Best Film, Best Director, and a Best Actor win for George C. Scott, who shocked people at the time by refusing to accept the award.

The film opens with a now legendary scene of General George S. Patton standing in front of a larger than life American flag, delivering a speech that is meant to motivate his troops into winning the war, and in turn sets the tone for the film and the controversial man. The original screenplay was written by the then unknown Francis Ford Coppola, who provides an introduction to this re-release as well as audio commentary for the film.

All I can tell you is that it is a good film, but you must be ready to commit to 171 minutes of elaborate war scenes and detailed battle plans. For those of you who do not know the intricacies of World War II, be sure to keep track of the names and places being discussed to help you keep a firm grasp on the strategic victories, and personal politics.
