Junior de Montreal Preview

Montreal can now officially consider itself to be a true hockey town as we have our very own junior team. They are a new team, but with plenty of history. Owner Farrel Miller (owner of SportTV.com) purchased the St. John's Fog Devils and brought them to Montreal. Now we have had junior teams previously in the city, but they were not successful. Attendance was not anything to write home about. The difference this time is that the Junior de Montreal is not an expansion team; we are already starting off with a strong foundation of players. Losers do not do well here, but that will not be the case with this team.

The Junior de Montreal home games will be played in the intimate confines of the Verdun Auditorium. For a reasonable price you can take the whole family to a high quality hockey game, watch some of the stars of the future and be right up close to the action.

Speaking of stars, the Montreal team has a couple in its lineup. The best known is local boy Angelo Esposito, who is property of the Atlanta Thrashers. He is at the Thrashers training camp, but if he does not make the big leagues this season we will see him play for the Junior. Another NHL drafted player is American defenseman T.J. Brennan, who was chosen by the Buffalo Sabres and will be one of the leaders on the blueline. Finally, netminder Jared Allen, drafted by the St. Louis Blues, was the MVP of the Under-18 World Championships for Canada. And this is just a small sampling of the talent on the team.

The season has already begun with the Junior de Montreal sporting a 1-3 record so far. Several players, minus Esposito, have returned from NHL training camps so the team will now be playing with its full compliment of players.

As the Junior de Montreal's internet home, Orcasound will be providing you with summary articles of every home game this regular season and hopefully deep into the playoffs.
