One of the better comedies out there. If you love to laugh and have not seen this one strap yourself in as this is a doozy. You will laugh yourself silly at this silly brand of humour. You won't be able to help yourself. This is the film that spoofs every monster/horror film made up until it was filmed. Mel Brooks (Robin Hood: Men in Tights, Blazing Saddles) is a genius at the spoof genre and this is one of his very best.
The Frankenstein reputation has hampered the career of his grandson, the talented neurosurgeon Frederick (Gene Wilder – The Woman in Red, Stir Crazy) has inherited his castle, his assistant Igor (Marty Feldman – Yellowbeard, The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes Younger Smarter Brother), housekeeper Frau Blucher (Cloris Leachman – The Women, Scary Movie 4), and lab assistant Inga (Teri Garr – Kramer vs. Kramer, Dumb & Dumber). All his life he believed that his grandfather's work was a bunch of hooey, but when he finds the book where his grandfather explains his experiments with reanimation he begins to think differently.
Double entendres, sexual innuendos, physical humour, sight gags, this film has it all. The film has a flair for having no taste and yet still winning you over with its relentless gags. The story is a simple one and just serves the purpose of making opportunities for jokes. Thirty years later and it still will leave you in stitches.
