Nouveau Cinema 2008 Wrap-Up

Plenty of discussion arose over the films at this year's Nouveau Cinema (the 37th annual). And that is exactly what you want in regards to a film festival. You want films that challenge, intrigue, anger, and excite. This creates buzz and buzz means people know about you and people knowing about you means ticket sales. This year there were plenty of sold out screenings and plenty of hot tickets. Films like Madonna's "Filth and Wisdom", Steve McQueen's "Hunger", Deepa Mehta's "Heaven on Earth", and the Beatles/Cirque du Soleil documentary "All Together Now" all garnered plenty of attention. This is one festival that will not have to worry about government or private subsidies as it is healthier than a horse…or maybe a wolf in this case.
