Most of this soundtrack was done by the well-known Bollywood composer A.R.Rahman. While writing the music he was inspired by the backdrop of the city of Mumbai used by director Danny Boyle and so the music has distinctive urban flair to it. Boyle told Rahman, who has some cool collaborations with rapper M.I.A. on the soundtrack, that he wanted the music to be loud like the city.
Hip hop and Bollywood have been combined to make a fresh sound. The right music really made a difference in this film as it was combined with the cinema verité to make a realistic picture of life in the bustling city of Mumbai. The energy of the film is certainly maintained in its soundtrack.
