What's old still works for chanteuse bet.e of bet.e and Stef fame. Those Brazilian rhythms are in heavy use and are still sexy and sultry. B. coming is a nice mix of jazz pop and bossa nova tunes. The basis of bossa nova is making it sound effortless even though it takes tremendous skill. Well, bet.e passes the test with flying colours making it sound like she could sing this stuff in her sleep. She achieves this all through her unique and effortless phrasing.
Known to Montrealers and many Canadians through her work in the duo bet.e and Stef, bet. e is stepping outside her comfort zone and showing that she is an artist that is continuing her growth. Bet.e and Stef broke up about five years ago and this is her first solo release. She seems still very sure of herself without her usual sidekick at her side.
Everything about the album from her voice to the music is very cerebral and finely produced. It is a classy affair. A solid album with no weak tracks.
