This is an annual event held at Dawson College through which the Blue Ring, the honour society of Dawson students, raises funds for a charitable cause of their choice.
Artists in Bloom puts on display two dozen or so talented student-artists in the Fine Arts and Illustration & Design departments who create new works of art before a live audience over a two-hour period, which are then auctioned off.
This year's event will be held on Thursday, April 16, 2009, beginning at 6 p.m. in the Reception Hall (5B.16). All proceeds for the event will benefit the Tony Proudfoot Fund at the ALS Society of Quebec.
Artists begin the evening by bringing blank canvasses to life as guests mingle, eat and drink while the creative process unfolds before their eyes.
At 8 p.m., the gavel drops as CTV television personality Rob Lurie starts the auction of the paintings. Tickets to the event are $10 and everyone is welcome. Tickets are also available at the door.
Last year, the Blue Ring selected the Gainey Foundation as the beneficiary of this the event. The previous year, Artists in Bloom raised over $8,000 for the Montreal General Trauma Unit, in recognition of the life-saving work they performed in the aftermath of the 2006 shooting.
Over the past 10 years, the event has raised more than $70,000 for mostly medical causes.
