Looking for a fun summer adventure film? The Land Of The Lost (yes, there used to be a tv show back in the 70's with the same title) is filled with dinosaurs, bizarre reptiles and all kinds of other imaginary creatures to keep you entertained for the duration of the film.
After an interview gone terribly wrong with Matt Lauer, scientist Dr. Rick Marshall (Will Ferrell) is ridiculed and reduced to teaching a class of young students. A young lady named Holly Cantrell (Anna Friel) tracks him down and together they set off on a crazy adventure that takes them back in time. The duo is joined by redneck Will Stanton (Danny McBride) on an expedition that has surprises at every turn. On their journey, they meet a primate named Chaka (Jorma Taccone) who becomes their ally as they desperately try to find a way back home.
I went into this movie with no expectations as I have often found movies starring Will Ferrell to be very disappointing. Comedy is indeed one of the most challenging genres of film but I just haven't been impressed with his work. This film, however, was a pleasant surprise. Not all of it, but most of it. Overall, the script was well written although it suffered in some places where the jokes were cheap and demeaning. When is Hollywood going to get over potty jokes and jokes about genitals? Anyway, the movie is faced paced and keeps the suspense going, as you never know what is lurking in the next corner.
