Soundtracks to romantic films are usually filled with mushy type music. Romantic ballad after romantic ballad. Well, "500 Days of Summer" is not your typical romantic film and this is not your typical soundtrack. It is stocked with songs by Regina Spektor, The Smiths, Hall & Oates, The Black Lips, Doves, Feist, and Simon and Garfunkel. In the film there is even a song and dance dream sequence, so the music matches that kind of vibe. The film moves from ecstasy to depression and expects the music to keep up. It does and we are all the better for it.
