Two teams from the AHL (basically a league of farm teams for NHL teams) will be taking the ice at the Bell Centre this Friday evening. The game will see the Hamilton Bulldogs (farm team of the Montreal Canadiens) and the Binghamton Senators (farm team of the Ottawa Senators) face off against one another.
Like the NHL, the AHL season is just underway and the players just getting to know one another. Hamilton is off to a strong start and is in second place in the Northern Division of the Western Conference (hunh??) with a 7-0-1-3 record (good for 2nd place) while binghamton is having a little rougher start at 3-5-2.
Some of the faces and names on both teams might be familiar to some of you. For instance, the Hamilton roster is made up of players like Sergei Kostityn (for now), Mathieu Darche (ex-McGill Redman), Tom Pyatt (obtained in the Chris Higgins trade with the New York Rangers), Ben Maxwell (late cut in the Montreal Canadiens' camp this year), Yannick Weber (played in the playoffs last year with the Montreal Canadiens), P.K. Subban (star on defense with the Junior Team Canada team in the last two World Championships), and goaltender Curtis Sanford (formerly of the Vancouver Canucks). On the binghamton side, they have players like Jesse Winchester, Cody Bass and veteran Denis Hamel.
The game is an excellent chance to see some of the future NHL stars in action and attend a game at the Bell Centre for a reasonable price (hint! hint!). A family can afford to go and take in a game all together without remortgaging the house. The last time the Hamilton Bulldogs played at the Bell Centre (last November against Binghamton) there were over 14,000 in attendance. Don't let this opportunity pass you by!
