In 1967 the Caughnawaga Gold Club, known by the locals as Pattons, came into being and for the past 43 years has welcomed golfers to its beautiful setting in Kahnawake. Owned by Angus Patton, the club began as a modest 9 hole course then grew to a full 18 holes in the early 70s and finally matured into its present 27 hole course in the late 70s.
A second generation of Pattons, Angus's kids – Andrew, Carrie, Cheryl, Louis and Jimmy – are now running the golf course. Starting as soon as the snow melts in the spring until sometimes November the course, with its 35 full-time staff, maintain the course so you can enjoy playing on it. They do a great job as the course is in continuous use throughout the golf season.
The course design while not cruel can be tricky at times. The course emphasizes accuracy, strategic play and staying out of the plenty of bunkers that protect the greens. Many of the holes play into the prevailing winds which make club selection tricky. The island green (hole #6) is the course's signature hole and to survive it you must play to the middle of the green no matter where the pin is placed. With its approximate 250 members there is plenty of time for the public to drop in and play a round of golf.
Besides the course, Caughnawaga Golf Club also has a club house that contains a kitchen with great food and excellent prices, a full bar, banquet facilities, and a couple of large screen televisions. There is also a nice outdoor terrace and BBQ facilities.
