Making references to the past while still trying to stay in the present is the best way I can think of to describe the music of The Black Keys. The duo, made up of vocalist/guitarist Dan Auerbach and drummer Patrick Carney, have now been recording together for 8 years and this is their sixth album release. The maturation process over the course of their albums is amazing, but they have managed to do that without radically changing their sound.
Music by The Black Keys is made up of bluesy, sparse arrangements, vintage rock, and R&B. With this recording they have managed to get even more soulful. Many of the choruses on this album will invite you to sing along and as much as you try not to you will find yourself caught up in them. Lyrically there is plenty of dark humour to be found that will have you grinning as you listen along. While listening to the album you will find the music transporting you to a place of your own.
