Vans have sponsored a music and extreme sports tour since 1995 and it has gotten bigger every year. It began as a punk rock and ska festival, but now features bands from all different genres like pop punk and metalcore. Now it is an international tour that often features over 100 bands on each date. Previous years the tour has featured acts like My Chemical Romance, NOFX, Less Than Jake, Dropkick Murphys, Joan Jett and the Blackhearts, Bedouin Soundclash, Alexisonfire, Bad Religion, Flogging Molly, and Anti-Flag. On the Montreal date this year bands like Andrew W.K., The Dillinger Escape Plan, The All-American Rejects, Sum 41, and Never Shout Never will perform.
Music is not all that the festival is about. Since 2006 the festival made a commitment to becoming more green. The tour buses are now all fuelled with biodiesel, it features a stage powered by solar energy, recycling is prominent, and the food is served on combustible plates. At each venue there is a half pipe for skaters and bikers and many booths with different types of vendors.
This year's 15th anniversary festival features fewer bands, but those bands will have 10 extra minutes on stage. This extra time will completely change the experience and allow the bands to better showcase their talents.
