American Idol winner Fantasia has had her share of ups and downs lately. She completed a successful run on the Broadway show "The Color Purple", but then had to declare bankruptcy and recently was hospitalized after an accidental overdose. These personal problems don't seem to have affected her during the recording of her latest album. It is filled with a variety of musical styles (piano numbers and mid-tempo offerings), but overall it is a soulful album that has the benefit of her powerful, emotion-filled voice. It is a voice that many an artist would love to possess with its distinctiveness. It really helps her out when she sings of love – lost or won. Fantasia is at her best during ballads where she really seems to be able to cut loose and convey emotions best.
