From the minds behind "The 40-Year-Old Virgin" and "Knocked Up" this film is of the vein with the fast and furious pace of humour. It's almost as if screenwriter/actor Jason Segal figured if he tossed enough gags out there that at least some of them would stick.
Peter (Jason Segal – from television's How I Met Your Mother) is dating television star Sarah Marshall (Kristen Bell – from television's Veronica Mars). He is crushed when she suddenly breaks up with him and is even more hurt when he finds out there is someone else.
After a period of moping around, Peter decides to cheer himself up by taking a vacation to Hawaii. His bad luck continues when he is checking in to his hotel and finds out that Sarah is there with her new boyfriend, Aldous Snow (Russell Brand – Penelope). This has awkward situation written all over it.
Not many who go expecting a typical Judd Apatow (Superbad, Walk Hard: The Dewey Cox Story) comedy will be disappointed with this film. Less disgusting comedy than other Apatow films however. Don't go in expecting a "Knocked Up" romantic comedy and you'll be fine.
Segal and the cast are at ease with the popular situational and awkward moments comedy. There are many laugh out loud jokes and even three scenes (you'll know them when you see them) that shocked me. Many of the usual suspects from previous Apatow films show up in cameo roles such as Bill Hader, Paul Rudd and Jonah Hill. And it keeps the high pace of jokes up until the end and does not fizzle out like many other films.
