National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation: Collector’s Edition – Blu-ray

Nothing means laughs during the Christmas season like National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation. Watching the zany Griswolds and their Christmas celebrations will make you think that your family is not so bad afterall.

Clark Griswold (Chevy Chase – Fletch, Caddyshack) is determined that this Christmas his family is going to have a good, old-fashioned celebration at home. Over their kid's protest, he and his wife, Ellen (Beverly D'Angelo – The House Bunny, American History X), invite over the entire family for Christmas. With both sets of grandparents plus Cousin Eddie (Randy Quaid – Brokeback Mountain, Kingpin) there the house is full. Family reunions always sound like a good idea, but usually end up more stressful than they are worth. And Christmas with the Griswolds is certainly no exception.

All family members fall into the cynical category except for Clark. He is hopeful for a large Christmas bonus this year due to his invention of a milk preservative and plans to put an in ground swimming pool in his backyard. Taken up by the spirit he is also attempting to cover his entire house with Christmas lights and erect a huge Christmas tree. Recipe for disaster, if you ask me.

During his prime no one could do slapstick, crass humour like Chevy Chase and this film sees him in all his glory. He has had some embarrassing turns on the big screen, but this is not one of them. His character is such a lovable loser and he does it so well.

While this film cannot exactly be put in the Christmas classic category as far as laughs go this one is right up there. Very few Christmas films have this kind of silliness and laughter about them. You can't be in a bad mood after watching this one.
