While we usually review music CDs in this section this book really fits in, so here we go…
"Off the Record" is made up of the best articles from the magazine Modern Drummer and its Off the Record column. It takes a good look at the drumming on some of music most popular songs. The music comes from all types of music. There are chapters on Modern Rockers, Punk, Metal, Funk, Progressive Rock, and Classic Rock. Some of the best drummers from each of the genres are looked at like Chad Smith of Red Hot Chili Peppers, Questlove from The Roots, Matt Cameron from Pearl Jam, Jimmy Chamberlin from Smashing Pumpkins, Dave Grohl from Nirvana, Lars Ulrich from Metallica, Phil Collins from Genesis, John Bonham from Led Zeppelin, and Keith Moon from The Who.
Reading this book will almost be like taking a drum lesson. Included with the book is a CD that goes through some of the more challenging patterns of the examined songs. Learn to play some of the great sections of songs like "Dare You to Move" by Switchfoot, "Times Like These" by Foo Fighters, "Drops of Jupiter" by Train, and "Hash Pipe" by Weezer.
If you practice the techniques taught in this book you'll find yourself a better drummer.
