Five years later we finally get a new The Strokes album. In this instance, however, it was worth the wait. The result is their strongest album in a decade. The songs are all basic, but really tight sounding. A huge step forward for the rock combo. Recently they have found themselves going in too many directions at one time and that really diluted the sound. While reining in the sound they are anything but predictable. There still are the usual psychedelic undertones throughout, but they are mixed with pop, reggae and the odd ballad thrown in for good measure. Several songs are quite beautiful and that is amplified by Julian Casablancas’ passionate vocals. Ten strong songs does a good album make.
