Growing up in Norway Sondre was greatly influenced by the 80s music that he heard his older siblings playing. A-Ha and Prefab Sprout became his first musical heroes. At the age of 8 he started taking guitar lessons that involved classical and bossa nova. At the age of 14 he began performing acoustically at clubs while still under age. At one of these shows he was “discovered” and signed.
In 2001 Sondre released his debut album entitled “Faces Down”. The album was a success in Norway and praised by critics in Norway and the U.S. His sophomore album, “Two Way Monologue” was a little bit of change for Sondre in that it was filled with more upbeat pop songs. Once again he got positive reviews for it. To keep people guessing and showing his range, Sondre released a jazz album recorded with his band Faces Down in 2006, “Duper Sessions”. Next solo release was 2007’s “Phantom Punch”. This was a full out rock album. His most far reaching album was his 2009 release, “Heartbeat Radio”. There are a wide variety of styles on the album from 50s jazz to 70s psych rock alongside the obvious influence of 80s bands like Scritti Politti. He will be releasing his latest album “Sondre Lerche” this June.
Over the course of his career he has toured with the likes of Beth Orton, A-Ha and Elvis Costello. His music is breezy and effortless sounding pop. He is a great songwriter for someone who is so young (28).
