Portishead came to be in Bristol, England in 1991, so that means that they are celebrating their 20th year as a band. Happy anniversary! What do bands do to celebrate their anniversaries you ask? The answer, from this band at least, is to go on tour.
Taking their name from a nearby town, the band is comprised of Geoff Barrow, Beth Gibbons and Adrian Utley. They released their first album, Dummy, in 1994. As they won the prestigious Mercury Prize in 1995 for their debut you could say that their career got off with a bang. Despite the fact that they hate publicity they have managed to build quite a following just through their live shows and recordings.
While they have been a band for 20 years they have worked rather infrequently. Over the span of two decades they have only released three albums. Between the second (Portishead) and the third (Third) there was an eleven year gap. During that time the members of the band concentrated on some solo stuff and other pursuits.
This is a small tour that they are presently on and is their first North American tour in over a decade.
As this is an outdoor show it is general admission.
