Montreal is a city that hopping all year round. A little or a lot of snow in the winter does not stop us. Ici on connait le fun! Part of the fun in the winter has become the city’s annual Fete des Neiges. It takes place on Ile Ste Helene in Parc Jean Drapeau. The festival has for its goal the idea of enjoying nature and the outdoors even during our cold winter. All sorts of activities have been organized to achieve that end.
Entry to the site (easily accessible from metro Jean Drapeau) is free. The affordability continues with many of the activities being free as well. Examples of the types of free activities include Intact Insurance Rink (where you can play hockey games), Mysnow Experience (an introduction to downhill skiing), Jumping Zone (trampolines available for kids), STM Snow Scooters (snow scooter races), Allee Carnavalesque (enjoy all kinds of carnival games), Minute Maid Giant Foosball (human foosball), Skater’s Path (ice path of 1.5 km along the St. Lawrence), and Boulatheque (Boule de Neige discotheque). There are also some paid activities. They include Zip Line ($2/descent), Tube Slide ( 2 years and under are free, 3 and over is $12/day), Dog Sled Rides (10 and under is $6/ride and 11 and over is $12/ride), and Horse Drawn Sleighrides (Short Trip: 16 years and under is $5/ride and 17 and over is $9/ride and Long Trip: 16 years and under is $9/ride and 17 and over is $15/ride).
