Colin Hay Concert Preview

The name might be vaguely familiar to you.  Think back.  Colin Hay is an Aussie singer who was the frontman of the hugely popular 80s band Men at Work.  Yes, he comes from a land down under.

Actually Colin Hay was born in Scotland and moved to Australia with his family when he was 14.  In the late 70s he and Ron Strykert formed Men at Work.  The band released their first album, Business As Usual, in 1981.  So after singles “Land Down Under”, “Who Can It Be Now?” and “It’s a Mistake” shot up the singles charts and sold millions of albums worldwide for the band they broke up in 1985.

Not ready to fade into the background musically, Colin Hay continued on as a solo act.  To distance himself from the whole Men at Work/Land Down Under thing he moved from Melbourne to Los Angeles in 1989.  He began releasing albums like Looking For Girls and Wayfaring Sons to some commercial success and established his own label called Lazy Eye Records.  The name of his label is a reference to the fact that he has a lazy eye.

Last year he released his 11th solo album entitled Gathering Mercury.  He is presently touring in support of it.
