Several summers ago you could not go five minutes without hearing this country trio’s song “Need You Now” on the radio or blasting out of someone’s car. The 2009 no. 1 single was a massive hit. From that moment on Hillary Scott, Charles Kelley and Dave Haywood were superstars. From that point on it was Country Music Awards and Grammy Awards galore. Not bad for three kids from Tennessee, Georgia and North Carolina.
Formed in 2006, Lady Antebellum got together due to family and music industry connections. Hillary Scott, daughter of country singer Linda Davis, had been rejected by American Idol twice, not even getting to perform for the judges. She was the last to join up with the boys. They took their name from the antebellum (or plantation) houses they were photographing one day and started making music. And the rest is, as they say, history.
Shortly after signing with a label the trio was selected by Jim Brickman to perform on his single, “Never Alone”. It turned out to be a Top 20 hit on the charts and Lady Antebellum made a name for themselves. They released their self-titled album in 2008. It debuted at number one on the Billboard Country Music charts.
After the success of their sophomore album, Need You Know. They came back with another one in 2011 that proved they were not a flash in the pan. Own the Night was also a hit on a lesser scale, but a hit none the less.
