He began his career as the guitarist for hard rock band Guns ‘n Roses. They were huge at the end of the 80s and beginning of the 90s. Slash (real name is Saul Hudson) then moved on to the supergroup Velvet Underground with former Guns ‘n Roses bandmate Duff McGagen and former Stone Temple Pilots frontman Scott Weiland. After the break up of that band, Slash has now decided to go the solo route…kinda.
With the release of his solo album entitled Slash in 2010 it featured plenty of special guests like Adam Levine (Maroon 5), Fergie (Black Eyed Peas), Ozzy Osbourne, and Dave Grohl (Foo Fighters). Another vocalist he worked with on the album, which debuted at no. 3 on the U.S. charts, was Myles Kennedy. On the subsequent tour and on his sophomore album Slash continued to work with Kennedy. The album, Apocalyptic Love, was released this past May.
Slash is considered one of the best rock electric guitarists of all time. He was named the second best electric guitarist by Time magazine in 2009 and no. 65 of all-time by Rolling Stone magazine in 2011. His riffs in the songs “Sweet Child ‘O Mine” and “November Rain” are two of the best ever recorded. The noted guitar collector (he has over 100 guitars) has designed eleven signature Les Paul guitars.
