The Cult Tours Once Again

The Cult live at Fillmore Detroit on 3-26-16. Photo credit: Ken SettleKnown in their native England originally as a post-punk band in the mid 80s before they broke over here in North America in the late 80s, The Cult have been around since 1983.  Their first single met with massive success.  “She Sells Sanctuary” was followed by other big hits like “Rain”, “Love Removal Machine” and “Fire Woman”.  Soundwise, the band has evolved from post-punk to hard rock.

Their road as a band has not been a smooth one.  There were some alcohol and substance problems and other tensions amongst the members.  All the unrest led to the band breaking up in 1995.  Four years later they got back together and released their seventh studio album, Beyond Good and Evil.  After that there were several lineup changes and long breaks between tours and albums.  The two constants have been lead singer Ian Astbury and guitarist Billy Duffy.  Presently the band is rounded out with Chris Wyse on bass and John Tempesta on drums.

The Cult released their latest album, Choice of Weapon, this year.  Upon its release in May the album debuted at number 15 on the Canadian charts and number one on the UK Rock charts.
