Hamilton’s premiere Rock-Folk outfit The Plain Steel has self-released their latest album. It is a self-titled CD filled with six tracks. This is edgy, driving, groovy, warm, and raw stuff that belies their experience as this is only their second album. Obviously a band of musicians who know their music history and what genres work will together, they have the perfectly meshed 70s guitar rock with country/folk. Also their somber lyrics and the accompanying feelings are amplified by the beautiful strings that play along on certain songs. You will hear varied influences like Eric Clapton, Neil Young, Stan Rogers and even some Irish/Celtic flavours. Showing their variety the last track is an over twenty minute opus that is pure progressive rock at its best.
