A long MTV video, or at least that’s the impression I had of this film. I guess fans of Anne Rice, the author whose book inspired the film as well as the previous one in this series (Interview with a Vampire), will be satisfied. Do not count on seeing the actors of the previous film, however. This edition puts front and center the late Aaliyah in the role of Akasha, the queen of the vampires.
The film tells the story of Lestat (Stuart Townsend), a vampire who decides to live openly as a rock singer, since with this lifestyle he can live in solitude and darkness. His music and his passion awaken Akasha from a long sleep and leads to plenty of bloodshed.
Shot in the nocturnal world of vampires, this film is a true cornucopia of gothic mansions scenes and alternative clubs one after another. In an interview, a member of the rock band The Vampire Lestat summarizes their music in these few words: “Sex, blood and rock and roll”. A suitable description of this film.
