I’m of two minds about this album. One side says: Enough already, Taylor! I’m done with the teenage songs of heartbreak that read like your diary. At first it was cute and such honesty was a breath of fresh air (remember Alanis Morissette and her huge album Jagged Little Pill) now it is just repetitive and boring. That being said the other side of my brain says: Bravo to an artist who refuses to be pigeonholed. Showing maturity and no fear, Swift even experiments with meshing electro or dubstep with country music. On Red she goes even further away from country music into the pop and rock arenas. The choruses are very catchy and melodies soaring. So….what is my bottom line? Red is an album that will produce a number of top hits (“I Knew You Were Trouble” and “We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together” have already been), sell millions of copies, be on the radio constantly, and earn raves for the artist. While I can see the talent the content (all her breakups have been turned into hit songs) really is beginning to grate on my nerves.
