One of the biggest names in Canadian rock music over the past 30 years has been Randy Bachman. From his work with The Guess Who to that with Bachman-Turner Overdrive to his solo stuff the man has proven time and time again that he knows how to record a classic rock song. They say that the proof is in the pudding. Well, Randy Bachman’s pudding includes 110 gold or platinum singles. ‘Nuff said!
Over the course of his career Randy Bachman has sold over 40 million records. Starting in 1965 with The Guess Who single “Shakin’ All Over” he has been a part of many a chart topping hit. Randy Bachman and Burton Cummings became one of the more successful rock music song writers of the next five years. The hits continued with “These Eyes”, “No Sugar Tonight” and “American Woman”. At the height of their success due to health and family concerns Randy Bachman left The Guess Who.
Not able to stay away from music, Randy Bachman started a country outfit called Brave Belt in 1970. This band evolved into the über successful Bachman-Turner Overdrive. They were equally if not more successful than The Guess Who with hit singles like “Takin’ Care of Business”, “You Ain’t Seen Nothin’ Yet” and “Let it Ride”. Not a man to let the grass grow under his feet Randy Bachman also began producing records for acts like Trooper in the 1970s.
Early on around the turn of the century, Randy Bachman and The Guess Who reunited for around four years. In 2005 Randy Bachman and Burton Cummings decided that they like it so much that they stayed together to record new music, release a live DVD and tour together.
Always a man with plenty of music inside of him, Randy Bachman continued on with a solo career working with the likes of Neil Young, Fred Turner and the late Jeff Healy. Out of his work with Fred Turner the two men, after having been apart for 20 years, got back together and toured as Bachman and Turner. Now he is back to performing solo.
