WBC Light Heavyweight champion Adonis “Superman” Stevenson (21-1, 18 KOs) will defend his title this Saturday night. He is facing a stiff test as he is going up against former IBF Light Heavyweight champion Travoris “Thunder” Cloud (24-1, 19 KOs).
Cloud is a 31-year-old originally from Florida and is recognized as a brawler by boxing experts. He believes he has the advantage over Stevenson because the title holder has not faced anyone of his calibre and boxing style. Cloud has been fighting for 9 years. In his first title defence, 36-year-old Stevenson is the local favourite as he fights out of Blaineville. The southpaw won his title this past June by defeating Chad Dawson, which was his 8th victory by KO in a row.
Both men are powerful and given the opportunity they only need one punch to end the fight. It is not expected that the fight will go the entire 12 rounds.
The undercard for the main event is a good one. Five fighters from the Groupe Yvon Michel (GYM) stable are fighting in this event. Local boy Jean Pascal returns to the ring to face American George “Honey Boy” Blades in a light heavyweight bout. The second light heavyweight fight will see Montreal based North American Boxing Association and North American Boxing Association champion Eleider “Storm” Alvarez face off against Colombian Edison “Pantera” Miranda. For a change of pace a middleweight contest will see another GYM boxer David Lemieux go toe to toe against American Marcus Upshaw. Welterweight Antonin Decarie will fight France’s Salim Larbi in a six rounder. Quebecer Kevin Bizier goes against Giuseppe Lauri in a welterweigh contest. Finally, in the fourth light heavyweight bout of the evening and another six rounder, Artur Beterbiev of Russia will face the much more experienced Rayco Saunders. The Stevenson-Cloud fight is scheduled to start around 10:30 p.m.
