Canada’s Number One Rapper Hits Town

Using only his middle name on the stage, Drake has become one of the biggest rappers ever produced by Canada. Originally he became known as Jimmy Brooks on the television’s Degrassi: The Next Generation. Now he is one of the premiere wordsmiths in rap music.  Though he has a style of his own he cites Kanye West, Jay Z, Lil Wayne and Aliyah as his main influences.

He is certainly coming into his own as an artist. Unlike other rappers he is willing to let us see who he is.  Fans have embraced his style and as a result he has sold over 5 million albums.  As well he has been awarded a Grammy Award, a trio of Juno Awards and six BET Awards.  The Canadian rapper also has the record for the most number one singles on the Billboard Rap Chart with twelve.

Besides rapping and acting the multi-talented guy also has worked as a producer under the pseudonym C. Papi and has written songs for Alicia Keys and Jamie Foxx.  He has also announced recently that he is joining the Toronto Raptors team as their global ambassador.

While his last album, Take Care, and the supporting tour were incredibly successful, it seems like his latest release, Nothing Was the Same, might even top that.  Its first single “Started From the Bottom” has already hit the top of the rap charts.  “Hold On, We’re Going Home” is the second single and seems like it is going to be equally popular.
