Tons of music. Four CDs and one DVD. Enough space to contain the four shows that The Band played at the legendary Academy of Music in NYC. The shows happened over the last week of 1971. Electric is the way I would describe the atmosphere at the shows and it really comes through on the DVD and CDs. All the stops were pulled out for the shows as they had the horn arrangement done by the incomparable Allen Toussaint and then at the New Year’s Eve show much to the delight of the crowd surprise guest Bob Dylan appeared on stage to play during the encore. The live recordings of all four shows and the live DVD really demonstrate that this was a band at the height of their popularity and musical dexterity. They were a band oozing with talent and they are on fire every song they play. This is the live collection that every fan should own. Making it more of a must have for fans is that the package comes in the form of a hardcover book complete with some written material and great photos. The only disappointment is the shortness of the DVD; it does leave you wanting more.
